Yellow Jackets sweep Austin College
The Yellow Jacket baseball
team found relief against
Austin College last weekend
gaining three victories after a
ten-game drought. They won
games by the scores of 4-1 and
9-3 and were awarded another
win by forfeit.
In the 4-1 triumph the
Jackets made a wnncr out of
Brent Broussard who is now
3-5 on the season. But it did
not come as easy as usual
J against the pesky Kangaroos a
team the Jackets have not lost
to since picking up baseball
again last year.
In the first inning Austin
College loaded the bases with
no outs but Broussard got a
strikeout and then a double
play pitch to end the threat.
In the third with the game
still scoreless the Kangaroos
did manage to get two hits and
finally scored a run on a
sacrifice fly.
The Jackets finally scored in
the fourth as Ricky Zamora
Eric Marks and Mike Rogers
each contributed run-scoring
hits.
The score remained 3-1 into
the sixth when Scott Westlund
Neal Hurts
Not surprisingly it was Jeff
Neal and Avcrion Hurts who
paced the HPU men's track
team at the Angclo State
Relays in San Angclo last
weekend.
Both Neal and Hurts gained
fourth-place finishes. Neal
threw the discus 150 feet and
four inches while Hurts heaved
the shot put for his best throw
of the season at just under 52
feet.

Mike Kcnncmcr held the
Kangaroos scoreless replacing
Broussard to begin the sixth to
earn his second save of the
year.
The 9-3 victory was just as
tough early. Austin College
took another early lead this
time in the first inning with
an error to make the score 1-0.
The Jackets managed to
break on top in the second
when Mark Jones and Zamora
combined to plate three runs.
Another error in the third
allowed the Kangaroos to cut
the lead to 3-2.
Thai's where it would stay
until the Jackets exploded for
six fifth-inning runs en route
to a 9-3 lead. The Jackets

Rogers had two runs batted in

A seventh-inning run by
Austin College was too little
too late as the Jackets finished
off the Kangaroos by the
six-run margin.
Lane Stahl recorded his
fourth win against three losses
in the triumph.
The Jackets won their third
of the scries when Austin
College decided not to make up
a game postponed due to rain.
The three wins give HPU a
7-7 conference record and puts
them at 23-21 overall.
Seven games remain for the
Jackets with three in
Stcphenvillc today and
tomorrow. Sunday the Jackets
play a make-up game at the
Jacket Field against Sul Ross
State before closing out the
regular season with three home
games against Texas College.
To have a chance tp make
the NAIA playoffs the Jackets
need a winning record. So
they need to take at least three
of their final seven to do so.
At this point in the season
the Jackets arc in third place in
the conference standings. They
trail Sul Ross 8-6 by one
game and conference leader
Tarkuon State 14-1 by
