Freshmen express
feelings about semester
Well the first semester is
quickly coming to a close .
As the holidays draw near
many freshmen are fondly
remembering orientation
initiation and homecoming.
Several are looking for-
ward to next semester.
"This semester has been
great. The people here are
wonderful. I went home one
weekend and got homesick
for HPU. I kind of don't
want to go home for the
holidays I'm having too
much fun" commented
freshman Laurie
Majdecki.
Other freshmen have dif-
ferent ideas about this
semester and going home.
"I really don't feel
homesick because I'm hav-
ing such a wonderful time
and frankly there isn't
much time to think about it.
I'm really trying to find
time to rest but looking
ahead I'm anxious to see
my family in Houston as I
haven't seen many of them
since school started.

There's a wonderful family
atmosphere here at HPU
that I will miss over the
holidays though" said
Kathryn Ivy.
"I'll enjoy going home
after the Phi Tuba Lubas
win the volleyball tourna-
ment and coming back to
win basketball and
baseball One 4's
sure there'll be no more
eight o'clock classes for me
next semester "joked
David Barnett.
"I felt it wa time of
learning a tinv to find
ourselves a time to grow
closer to God and a time to
love those around us. It was
also a time to do your best
for God and love others as
Christ loved us" remarked
Bandy Dorrow.
"I am ready to get the
semester over with. This
first semester is basically a
starting point or a trial
period for us as freshmen. I
had a few grade dif-
ficulties but basically I'm
ready to face a new fresh
semester" Andy Baley
Tli
cheerfully stated.
"This was an enlighten-
ing period in which I met a
lot of new friends. This
period has forced me to
mature socially mentally
and spiritually. Who
knows? Maybe next
semester I'll have a room-
mate frim this planet"

.' ven though uese views
differ in content the idea is
still the same. Freshmen
are finding it hard to
believe this semester is
almost over. But they
mustn't despair for another
exciting semester is just
around the corner for both
freshmen and up-
perclassmen alike.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean
on your own understanding. In all your ways
acknowledge Him and He will make your paths
straight." (Proverbs 3:56)
God gives us the promise that if we trust Him with
our lives He will "make our paths straight." He's not
just talking about our spiritual lives but also our
physical lives. When planning our future in our rela-
tionships with others and even with our schoolwork
God wants us to completely surrender to His guidance.
Too often we think that we can take care of these "lit-
tle things" ourselves but if we do not allow God to be
sovereign in ALL aspects of our lives these "little
things" can become large stumbling blocks in our
spiritual walk. He asks us to acknowledge Him in "All
your ways and He will make our paths straight."
Complete dependence on God will bring forth com-
plete blessings from God. Are you creating stumbling
blocks or allowing God to remove them?

Ministry
planned
The Department of
Sociology and Social Work
in the School of Social
Sciences is sponsoring a
group of students who will
spend one week (January 2
to January 9) with the Rio
Grande River Ministry.
They will be providing
minor repairs and winteriz-
ing homes of the poor and
elderly in the South Texas
area. An area pastor will
determine need and make
work assignments. To earn
money for the purchase of
needed materials the
students have asked to be
allowed to pickup pecans
on your property. If you
have pecans you will give
to the students y contribu-
tions you make will be used
directly for the purchase of
supplies for housing
repairs for the poor
elderly.
All you need is your student I.D.
