The Jackets got off to a
good start by controlling
the opening tip-off against
ACU Saturday. Unfor-
tunately the favor ended
with no points scored.
The game remained on a
give-and-take pace until an
exchange of run-and-gun
plays resulted in two
Jacket baskets and three

In Lone Star Conference
statistics this week Taylor
and Eisenbach are once
again one and two in scor-
ing Taylor averaging 25.8
points per game and Eisen-
bach 23.1. Taylor is third in
rebounding and Eisenbach
is fourth. Taylor a 6-0
junior from Bastrop also
leads the LSC in field goal
and free-throw percentage
57.6 from the floor and 85.9
from the line. Jennifer

The game see-sawed
back and forth with no
more than one point dif-
ference for either team.
Jackets David Steams 6-6
post drew a foul with two
minutes left in the half.
Stearns made the first of a
one-and-one attempt to tie
the game.
Bringing the ball down
court the Wildcats started
stalling for one shot before
the end of the half. But with
14 seconds left HP stole the
ball.
Instead of working the
ball down court the
Jackets attempted a force
down court and lost control
of the ball.
Strong Jacket defense
held the Cats to a tied game
at the half of 38-38.
The second half was
much like the first with one
exception. The Jackets
were 10 for 13 from the
free-throw line the first
half and a slim three for 10
the second half.

Jackets are first in three of
six categories scoring of-
fense at 77.7 field goal

victory margin winning by
6.9 points every game.
HP Coach Sharon Camp-
bell said "We are
going to have to play some

stretch of the season
because we are not going to

loss to ACU
The Jacket defense forc-
ed many turnovers but
failed to capitalize on most
of them.
The lead went to the wire
until the final second of the
game. Then the Jackets
were charged with a
technical foul giving the
Cats two free throws and
control of the ball. Both
shots were good with the
Wildcats taking the win
73-76.
Head Coach Jim Mun-
nerlyn said of the ACU loss
"I was very disappointed
the way our team played
against Abilene Christian.
I'm pretty discouraged
because every time I think
we have turned the corner
and are playing consistent-
ly we have a game like the
one we have against ACU."
Munnerlyn added "I still
think we are in the con-
ference race but we won't
be if we drop two on the
road."

Home games on TV
By DeAnn Stewart
The television production
class of the new Mass Com-
Ejunications Department
at Howard Payne has
begun taping the Yellow
Jacket basketball games
that are played in
Brownwood Coliseum this
semester.
The games are being re-
broadcast on cable TV
channel 2 at 10 p.m. follow-
ing the games which begin
at 7:30 p.m.
Students broadcasting
the basketball game are
gaining experience in the
field said DeAnn Stewart
one of the students par-
ticipating. "In the field of
mass communications on-the-job
training is the best
training you can get."

"The hardest task in
broadcasting the games is
quickly matching the name
with the number of the
player and conveying the
strategies" said Miss
Stewart.
"The re-broadcast of the
basketball games has
created interest in
students faculty and those
members of the communi-
ty who are not able to at-
tend the games as
spectators."
