"I also believe that the best
way to reduce prejudices of
stereotypes is to have actual
contact between two par-
ties.. .having Americans and the
Arabic people get to meet each
other and have a more realistic
appraisal of each other" he
said.
King lived in the Middle East
from 1960 when his Southern
Baptist missionary parents
were appointed to Beruit
Lebanon until high school
points in a season. He scored 446
in 1978-79 and 412 in 1979-80.
"500" has been achieved by HP
players only 10 times
previously.
He set three LSC tournament
records for most points a
career most field goals made in
a career and most assists in a
career. The two-time All-
American also is ranked in the
top 10 in Howard Payne records
for most field goals a career
(fifth) most free throws a
career (fourth) most field
goals a single season (10th) and
most free throws a season
(eighth).
"Mr. Assist" would also be
good title for Hopkins who
wrote the assist records at HP.
He set every single Yellow
Jacket assists record for
career single season and single
game. Hopkins' single game
high was 19 set against Lub-
bock Christian in December
1979.
HP head coach Chester Story
said "Hopkins is a great com-
petitor and leader who will be
remembered as one of the all-
time Yellow Jacket greats.
There is probably no one more
deserving of this honor."
