Ten pledges were accepted
into Alpha Phi Omega National
Service Fraternity last week
according to Tim Stimson
president of the fraternity.
Accepted for membership

Jazz ensemble to present
improvisation clinic
The Howard Payne Jazz
Ensemble will present an
Improvisation Clinic tomorrow
April 3 from 1-4 p.m. in the
Howard Payne Band Hall.
The clinic will be followed by
a jazz ensemble at 8 p.m. in
Mims and will feature guest
artist Don Caldwell and
director John Farrell .
Mr. Caldwell has been
playing professionally in the
Lubbock area for the last 15
years. He is an accomplished
woodwind Mperformer and
recording artist. He has been
teaching improvisation to
students and professionals
alike.
Mr. Farrell has been an
assistant professor of music at
Howard Payne for the last 4Ms
years. He is currently a
member of the Ft. Worth
Professional Musicians
Association. He has played at
Six Flags Over Texas for six
years and for one year at
Astroworld. He has also per-
formed in Ft. Worth's Casa
Manana and played in the
Lubbock Symphony Orchestra
while teaching at Texas Tech
University.
The concert and clinic is open
to the public.

chairmen. Events scheduled for
the upcoming week include an
art show a movie and a
speaker.
"West Texas Bicentennial
Exhibition of Paintings" wiU
open Sunday April 4 at the
campus art gallery and will run
through April 25. Co-sponsored
by the art department and SUB
the show is a presentation of the
Lubbock Art Association and
features a variety of works
including jewelry enamel pen
and ink and batik. The gallery
is open 2-5 p.m. dally except
Saturdays.
Funny Girl" starring
Barbra Streisand and Omar
Sharif f will be the April feature
movie at 8 p.m. Tuesday April
6 in Mims Auditorium. A
favorite movie of many film-
goers the story is based on the
true story of Fanny Brice and
the Ziegfield Follies. Admission

David Toma nicknamed "the
compassionate cop" will speak
at 8:30 p.m. Thursday April 8
in Mims Auditorium. Toma is
the real-life story of a vice
narcotics and gambling
detective. He has been called "a
very unusual cop with a passion
for people an emotional man
who becomes involved with the
downtrodden the exploited and
the victims of crime."
Admission at the door for non-
SUB members is 50 cents.
SUB has scheduled a camping
trip to Garner State Park April
22-25 due to the holiday given to
students that Friday. Kay
Bryant chairman of recreation
has urged students to make
plans kow to join this venture.
"It will be a fun opportunity
for anyone who enjoys roughing
it a little bit and wants to get
away from it all since we have a
holiday" she said.

Monday April 5 as the HPU Yellow Jackets take on a group of
local businessmen and educators dubbed "The Over The Hill
Gang" in a benefit basketball game sponsored by the Brown
County Unit of the American Cancer Society. L. V. Tennison
(center) Brownwood recreation director will be on hand to keep
some semblance of order during the fund raising affair in
Yellow Jacket Gym at 8 p.m.
