Duo-planlsts will
present concert
Duo-pianists Arthur Whit-
temore and Jack Lowe will be
presented in Mims Auditorium
on October IS by The Com
munity Concerts Association
(formerly the Brownwood Civic
Music Association.)
The 8 p.m. concert is free to
all Howard Payne students with
their activity cards according to
Duane Blakely president of the
association.
The celebrated pianists
recently completed their
twenty-fifth year together.
They are currently taping a
new TV series of weekly
one-hour programs on which
they will be performer-hosts
and introduce guests not only in
the classical music field but
also writers directors painters
as well as singers and
musicians normally associated
with the Pop market.
On the heels of last season's 80
city concert tour including 21
appearances with the Dallas
Symphony Whittemore and
Lowe again will have a
marathon season including
another tour with the Dallas
Orchestra.
Whittemore and Lowe were
the first duo-pianists to appear
at the White House to introduce
popular music on the concert
stage and to have averaged
over 70 concerts a year.
They have just become the
first artists to have recorded a
country music album using
classical style arrangements for
placement in the Country Music
Hall of Fame in Nashville
Tennessee.
The two men were born in the
American West and received all
their training in this country.
Mr. Whittemore is from
Vermillion South Dakota. Mr.
Lowe comes from Denver. They
met as students at the Eastman
School of Music in Rochester
New York.
