B. Johnson will be the guest
speaker for the annual spring
banquet of the Lyndon B. John-
son Young Democrats Club of
Howard Payne.
The banquet will be held at
7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Gold
Room of Hotel Brownwood.
Phil Shuler sophomore from
Brownwood will be the emcee
for the evening with a welcome
address by Homer H. Stephens
sophomore from Brownwood who
is the club president. Groner
Pitts who co-sponsors the club
with J. H. Shelton and Jack Bell
will introduce the speaker.
Marc Wilder junior from Hai-
lingen will give the invocation
with a benediction by Pat Craus

secretary.

ets moved one run closer in the
bottom of the sixth. Catcher Rich-
ard Jackson walked and moved
to third when Bob Hurst reached
first on an error. Right-fielder
Jerry Perkins came through with
a single to score Jackson from
the hot corner.
A pair of singles and a Howard
Payne bobble gave Southwestern
their final run in the top of the
ninth. Jesse Hibbetts and Eddie
Vetter each hit safely and the
former raced homeward follow-
ing a Payne error.
It was the final home game of
the year for Howard Payne. They
end their '58 baseball season Sat-
urday night in Stephensville when
they clash with the Tarleton
Plowboys.

Starts Two-State Tour
The Howard Payne College j
Choir began their tour of West
Texas and Southern New Mexico
Thursday and will present their
final performance Sunday April
20 by singing two number at the
11 a.m. worship service of the
Brownwood First Baptist Church.
The tour schedule April 10-20
includes 19 appearances in both
churches and schools in Mona-
hans Ysleta Pecos Kermit Big
Lake Eldorado San Angelo
Odessa Big Spring El Paso and
Brownwood Tex. and Artesia
and Lovington N. M.
The program to be presented
in the churches is entirely sacred
featuring choral music of the
Sixteenth Century Russia and
Early America in addition to
spirituals h y m n ai rangements
and contemporaiy numbers. The
secular program for the school
appearances fcatur e standard
light works fiom musical comedy
folk tunes and popular selections.

Jim Woodle instructor in
theory and choral work at How-
ard Payne is director of the choir
with Jerry Forderhase Plain-
view as student director. Mrs.
Woodle who also is an HPC mu-
sic faculty member is the ac-
companist assisted by Bill Wick-
er student from Houston.
The 40 members of the choir
in addition to singing as a single
unit also sing in smaller groups
including a women's choir and a
men's choir in addition to eight-
part divided choral work. Special
work will be done by a men's
quartet and a women's quartet
singing separately and as a com-
bined octet.
