FRIDAY JANUARY 10 1958
Our Best Wishes
The Yellow Jacket Staff like the rest of the students
and taculH. was sad to hear of Mrs. Vardaman's resigna-
tion as clean of women.
Her kind understanding of student problems and her
salacious character have added up to a splendid job in
the yeai and one half she has been the dean of women
We want to wish her many happy hours as she de-
ntet. 'ht full time to her family and we hope that we
mt liei olten on the campus for visits.
Resolving Resolutions
Another year another chapter finished in our lives.
Each year we consider making new resolutions but then
we ask ourselves "What's the use? I'll break them."
Surely if we set our minds to it we will be able to
keep one '"lttle bitty" resolution like "I promise not to
throw cold water in my roomre's face every morning."
But we should take these new resolutions more seriously.
If you have not already made your resolutions (good-
ness knows you had beter hurry before another year slips
by!) here are a few "suggestions" think seriously about
them.
1. I will speak and smile at every person that I see on
campus hoping that I will win the title of Most Friendly
in 1958.
2. I will practice my voice lesson at 11 p. m. every
night (except Saturday) in hopes that my friends may
go to sleep more quickly.
3. I will be sure to tell all the girls and boys in the
dorms the latest gossip so that they won't be left out.
4. I will play the piano any time that it is inconvenient
to any group that may be having a meeting in the parlor.
5. I will continuously gripe about the cafeteria food
it will help everyone enjoy the meals.
6. I will cut into the cafeteria line everyone will like
me better.
7. I will always talk about what I have done and how
important I am to HPC.
8. I will help my basketball team by booing as loud
as possible every time I hear a referee's whistle.
Well anyway this will give you a beginning and if
you decide that it will sound better to say I will NOT
instead of I will feel free to do so.
Who s Your Guest?
Did you remember that February 7 8 and 9 is GUEST
WEEK-END? That is when your friends who are pros-
pective students for Howard Payne College will be guests
of the college. Did you make out your guest list while
home for Christmas? It isn't too late if you got caught
in the Christmas rush.
In the chapel service January 17 you will be asked
to supply the student promotion office with your guest
list. Be thinking of an invitation.
Most of all circle this date on your calendar as the
week-end to be on the campus and on your toes making
every guest welcome and at home at HPC.

Meditation
i --...
By MARC WILDER
In the third chapter of John
we read about a wealthy and
educated man who came to Jesus
by night to inquire about salva-
tion. Christ told him that in or-
der to see Heaven he must be
born again.
The man Nicodemus could not
accept this because he could not
understand it. He was intelligent
and well-educated and he wanted
something that his mind could
giasp. As far as we know he is
in hell today. He could not under-
stand the new birth so he re-
jected it. He has been regretting
that decision for nearly two
thousand years. He will continue
to regret it for eternity.
I do not understand electricity.
I could not begin to explain the
operation of a power plant and
tlie transfer of eleitncity from the
plant to the light in my loom.
But I can flick a little switch
and the loom will be flooded
with light. The fact that I don't
undei stand all about electricity
does not keep me from using it.
I do not understand God. I do
not understand the virgin biith
the lesurrection the new birth
and many other things but I
do know that I have trusted in
the name of the only begotten
Son of God I have flicked the
switch and God has given me
Eternal Life.
If I had to wait to accept Christ
until I understood all about God
and eternity and salvation I
would die and go to hell without
ever finding Christ.
It is not necessary to under-
stand electricity to light a room
and it is not necessary to under-
stand all about God to light a
life.
"That if lhou shall confess with
thy mouth the Lord Jesus and
believe in thine heart that God
has raised Him from the dead
thou shalt be saved." Rom 10:9.

From the facial expressions of
many of the students the holidays
just didn't last long enough. Many
came back several pounds heavier
from over eating while others
came back several pounds lighter
from working during the holi-
days. Wilson Burch lost a total of
ten pounds while "Pud" Light
gained several "just sitting
around home."
The basketball boys played one
of the best games of the seasot
last Monday night against San
Houston. The score was neck an
neck for the longest but finall
in the last few remaining second
the visiting team carried aw.T
the bacon with a two point win
Each and eveiy member of th
team are to be congratulated for
a wonderful game.
A few students didn't make it
back to school on time at least
on the lequiied Monday. They
were stranded heie and thcie by
heavy snow drifts. Just to men-
tion a few there was Alece Ted
Janice John and Lilly. All in
all I guess the holidays weie
satisfactory for everyone and now
we are all ready to settle down
to some studying. Ha Ha.
I heard about the two boys and
their dates getting involved with
the United States Air Foice. It
seems during the holidays the
foursome was looking over some
planes at an Air Force Station.
Before they knew what was com-
ing off they were escorted into
an office for questioning. Things
got pretty hot for awhile but
finally they were released shak-
en but all in one piece.
Just think kids two more
weeks of school and then that
blasted week of FINALS. Don't
wait until the last minute to study
for those tests. Cramming doesn't
help much.
Marriages and engagements are
taking over HPC. Louise Ham
now has a spouse called "Pete."
