Accepting Christ was Highlight
Of Jerry Gregory's HPC Career

Jcny Don Gicgoiy is this
week's campus personality. Jerry
was born June 7 1935 in Bi own-
wood Texas the son of Mr and
Mrs Heniy C Giegoiy who now
reside in Comanche. He attended
public school in Brownwood but
moved to Comanche for the fifth
grade thiough high school.
High school honors were nu-
merous foi Jeny. He was presi-
dent of his senior class student
council president and lettered
thiee years in football and track.
He also boxed his final year at
CHS. Although Jeiry has yet to
take a college speech he was runner-up
in bovs' declamation at the
State contest for two successive
years in high school.
Jerry giaduated from Comanche
High School in 1953 and attended
his fust yeai of college at Tarle-
ton. He transferred to HPC for his
second yeai and is a senior here
now.
Jeny said "The highlights of
my college caieer came during
my fnt yeai at HPC I became a
Chnstiari in Apnl suirendeicd to
preach in May and became pas-
tor of a chuich in Septembei."

the BSU Youth Revival Clinic at
Mount Lebanon neat Dallas last
Friday and Saturday.
Jeriy's boxing talents followed
him to college and he won the
lightweight championship of the
Blown wood Regional Golden
Gloves Tournament in 1955 and
won the featherweight title last
vear.
Jeny stated "I'm not waiting
for the light girl. I'm waiting for
the right girl to find me With
my church my lessons and my
job grading papeis I don't have
time to find her."
Jeiry Don is majoring in Bible
and plans to go out of state next
year for graduate work. His old-
er brother Kenneth is an HPC
gtaduate and is finishing his in-
ternship at a Comanche hospital.

regional finals with their win

ed anothei tall team Noiton in
the final game 72-fi0 Noiton

Hawley and Lipan Valley Mills
and Crawfend were the other two
entiles in the two day tournament
Mr. Chambers the Burkett
coach is in his 37th year as super-
intendent and coach of the tiny
Coleman County school. This is
the laigest time a Texas superin-
tendent has presided in the same
school.
Scott Eeldington a Burkett
flash is the team's leading scorer
with a 21 8 aveiage thus far this
year. Burkett will meet the pre-
tournament choice Kyle in their
fust game ef the 1957 state tour
nament in Texas University's

The legion II-B boys have had
then fling heie but the girls of
this region take eiver the HPC
hauiwoods in a two day session
beginning Fndav afternoon These
girls' teams qualify foi the icgion-
al temrnament by first winnning
their district then winning bi-
distnct Admission to this tourna-
ment will be 50c for adults and
25c for students per session Win-
ner of the tourney here wrll ad-
vance te the state tournament
next week-end in Austin.

Volleyball Team
Opens Season
Howard Payne opened volley-
ball season with a game in San
Angelo with San Angelo Junior
College defeating the Jackets 15-
4 15-9 and 15-13.
The traveling squad consisted
of ten girls Coach Maty Tatum
Miss Bettye Jo Reed Mr. Joe
David Tatum and Dewitt Tatum
The Jackets were chessed in
white shorts and shirts The Yel-
low Jacket is on the left of the
shirts
Iona Price and Violet Ce- were
elected by the Jackets as co-cap-tains
for the season
Staiting line up: Frances Miles
setter; Mary Etta Lawrence set-
