The
Fashion Plate
By BILLIE WILLIAMS
On the campus you often see
some very unusual and different
things. Many times you mentally
kick yourself for not thinking of
some of the clever tricks used in
the wearing of clothes jewelry
etc. that you see.
One of the newest and most
startling things of the year is
seeing Ed Welch in a pair of blue
jeans. Never would have believed
it.
Tricky and pretty are the room-
mates who are making dresses
skirts blouses etc. alike. One of
the first are Becky Parr and Jo
Rutheiford. They have chosen
navy blue linen with full skirts
and white collars and cuffs.
Mildred White and Biddy Wil-
son came up with green skirts de-
signed with large brown polka
dots. They team these up with
white cotton blouse and a flower
at the neck.
In the new jewelry we find a
very ptetty gold bracelet which
Jo Rutherford received for her
birthday. It is a small four-leaf
clover with her name inscribed
on it.
Fannie King had on her un-
usual pair of dangling earbobs at
the Circus the other night.
Marilyn Isabell and Donald Jay
have joined the ranks of the
steadies who are wearing sweat-
ers alike. They are two wild to
describe just take a look the next
time they wear them.
Tommic and Sparkie have cot-
ton shirts made alike. Looks very
nice.
A new place to wear flowers is
at the waist or on the pocket of a
dress.
One of the leading magazines
suggests to the boys that they
take a pair of nuts (the kind that
goes on cars) and fasten them to
gether with screws (after giving
them a coat of varnish) for an un
usual pair of cuff links.
A very "different" tie clasp be-
longs to Jack Reynolds. It is a
miniature pipe which can be
taken off and smoked. Useful to
say the least.
Baby Girl Is cBorn
To Tlie Bob Barron's
When you see Bob Barron you
will notice that he is walking on
clouds and for a good reason. On
Easter morning at C:47 there was
a new addition to his family.
Little Miss Deborah Sue Bar-
ron was born at the Harris Meth-
odist Hospital in Fort Woith.
To quote Bob "she lias black
hair deep blue eyes a dimple in
her chin and a cute pug nose."
Congratulations Deborah Sue
you have chosen some mighty
fine parents.
Now These Kids Are Spinning
Not Blowing Their Little Tops
Maybe it is the circus influence
(the Big-Top you know) or per-
haps it is just another product of
spring but whatever the reason
many of the Howard Payne in-
tellects have taken up a new pas-
time that of spinning tops.
Yo-yos still hold a small place
of popularity but their influence
is waning.
When these little creatures that
dumb up strings saw that they
were losing looting they tried a
feeble come-back by the appear-
ance of a huge oversized yo-yo
made by Mr. Curbo and dangled
(we still haven't found the right
word that tells what you do with
a yo-yu) by Joe Paul Smith.
This overgrown piece of mach-
inery (the yo-yo silly not Joe
Paul) is made of two eighteen-
inch phonograph records held to-
gether by a piece of wood and
strung on a heavy cord.
Brooks Dozier also tried out this
new yo-yo but the thing went
down the string slowly and
climbed back up to his hand so
clumsily that lie soon tired of it.
So yo-yos are going out-tops
are coming in.
There are big tops little tops
middlesied tops led tops blue
tops green tops and just plain
tops.
Sparky is the champion in this
department. He never misses. Al-
ways his top knocks the other out
of the ring. He even makes the
thing do tricks for him but we
think it was unintentional when
the top slipped the other day and
went inside his shirt.
John McCassland seems to have
several tops all sires and he lias
really been spinning around late-
ly too.
Naturally Brooks tried out the
top game. Good too he's just
naturally talented.
Royce Burrows apologetically
states that he's just learning but
we saw him pick up a top while
it was spinning and let it spin on
his hand . . . looks like he's learn
ing fast.
If you aie down in the dumps
if you are suffering from Spring
rever or n indigestion is iaus-i
ing you trouble ... if you aie
bored with life and feel that you
have nothing to do . . . Slop blow-
ing your top. That will never get
you anywhere. Don't be spinning
n line to your girlfriend that will
get you some wheie
Just go downtown buy a top
spin it and divieitanse. (That's
Spanish lor "amuse yourself."
Now Mrs. Tories do we get that

short stories I guess. Well most
of what I write is fiction anyway.
Congratulations to the H-club

urday night. 1 must say those kids
from tlie high school just ran
