ing trips which the band expects to

will be operated into the Bears' home
town. Another trip will be to the
Dallas Fair on October 17 when more

that a big delegation will also be with
the band on this trip.
One of the most important trips of
the band will be to Abilene on Thanks
giving Day when the Simmons College
Cowboys and the Howard Payne Yet
low Jackets tie up on the gridiron for
annual honors.
The band will go to Fort Worth
some time between Thanksgiving and
the Christmas holidays for the pur-
pose of broadcasting a concert over
Station WBAP The Star-Telegram.

been announced. Plans ore also be
ing made to take the band on a tour

Last year It will be remembered
the Bobcats had won five straight
association games while the Jackets
had only four to their credit. The
Teachers were rated higher than the
Jackets but a 32-0 victory put the
Teachers Into eclipse for the time be-

Playing the first game n Howard
Payne athletic team ever played away
from home Dad Amis' Yellow Jackets
were beaten 20-0 in Shreveport I a..
last Saturday afternoon by a better
conditioned team and an eleven which
played a better brand of football.
Practically the entire game was play-
ed without the assistance of Captain
BUI Blssett who could not stund the
heat nnd "Cap" McAllister nll-os-soclatlon
fullback.
It might be said contrary to the
belief of some who believe Dad Amis'
press dispatches are punk that the
Yellow Jacket tnem'or dors not have
nllbies. He believes that his team was
defeated by a better conditioned squad
and one which played a better brand
of football.
However it might be said too that
Howard Payne's grid hopes are cap
able of playing better football than
they displayed In jShreveport.
The 'ntenve U-A U i'tyveport
something practically unknown to any
Howard Payne plovers caused a
number of men to have to leuve the
game after the first whirl-wind drive
which carried the Jackets through five
successive llrst uowns trom tneir own Prnctcaiy cvery man tc squad

Press dispatches show that the Bob
cats arc on a tear down San Marcos
way and arc tearing through the
country like n wild hull In a china
closet. It will he up to the Jackets
to stop them ns they did last yeir.
The Bobcats tore through the
Stephen F. Austin State College ot
Nacogdoches last week for n 12-0 win
over the Lumberjacks. And the Lum-
berjacks have been playing a classy
brand of ball this season.
It looks like the Bobcats will come
with an end run attack. It was this
play they used In making their touch-
downs against the Lumberjacks. And
by the way both of the point-counters
were made bj n Mr. McCall who
sent out of the game. He returned to
Brownwood with u black eye to Drove
his statement.

"The Centenary gam-! w us undoubt-
edly the dirtiest I bavs seen since I
have been In the Southwest" Coach
Amis declared after returning Sunday
afternoon where the Frisco was met
by a hundred enthusiastic rooters.
The Jackets were fortumtc though

stood 100 degrees in the shade. 'I be
low altitude causes the humidity to
rise high.
President Godbold und Professor
Wlnebrcnner have doped out the de-
feat In that the humidity caused the
humility.
Centenary fans believe their team
tliis year to be only a third as good
as the eleven which beut Howard
Payne by ten points "lust year. The
Gentlemen victory came to Slirevepoit
as a surprise. Betting oods fuvorcd
the Yellow Jackets by fourteen points
in Shreveport.
Practically the entire game vv.is
played without the service of Captatu
BUI Blssett nnd "Cap" McAllister.
Blssett could not stand the hcut nnd
wus taken from the game entirely
"out." The heat was too much for
Blondie. McAllister was charged will'
slugging and put out of the game
He had been tackled around the neck
and the fingers of a Gentlemen were

'lhe Jackets used trie deceptive shift
which gained so much yardage tor
them last year In opening up the game
and going down the field in that hur-
ried fashion that they did. They were
within the shadow of the foal before
the Gentlemen knew what It wus all
about. Then the heat presented itself
nnd took charge of the uucondltlouid
Jackets.
After this threat the Jackets n:ver
again seriously threatened the Cen-
tenary goal line. A flock of suh.tl-
tutes were hurried in and played more
of the game than did the first string.
Three men stayed nil of each quarter.
They are Cook Caldwell and Boyd.
Centenary's first touchdown came
when Woods received n fumble by
Grady on Howard Payne's 20-yard
the second period Woods ugiin rccov
ered n fumble by Grady near the
Jackets goal and White went across
for another touchdown. York with
that masterful golden toe added extra
point after each touchdown and kick'
cd a couple of field goals during the
game. One was from the 35-yard line
and tlie other from the 45-yard line.
He is the greatest kick Dad Amis
says lie has even seen.
Dad Amis looks toward his men
just like Howard Payne College looks
toward him and the men. The spirit'
tor victory grows stronger with de-
feat mill the Jaikcts now hive better
support than wus present at any time
last year. 'Hie College is hick of that
team.
While Howard Payne College is
paying a tribute to the men who lost
by organizing to hack them stronger
Dad Amis is proud of bis men.
"Harvey Stanford pluytd the best
game I have ever set 11 a lineman
play" the Jacket mentor announced
upon his return. And Dud has seen
some great teams in action anil play-
ed on an aggregation which wus the
chimpioiiship ilevui of the United
States.
hi talking of the men he did not
forget to mention the good work
which Caldwell did ut quurtcrhaik.
He mentioned Cook's staying in all
the game Boyd's cruck defensive
work und the tackles credittd to tint
Red Cottle. He discovered that there
are some men on the second string
who got into the game nnd held just
about us well .is the varsity.
'lhe starting line-ups:

will be introduced to BrownwunH
port fans Friday afternoon.
Only three letter men are said to
mve started the game at Nacog
doches. Captain Dallcy is n quarter-
back quite familiar to Howard Payne
grid fans. It was be who assisted In
Hint 1 1st minute spurt Inst year to
score the six points on the Jackets.
Darby n tackle nnd Willis a wing
man nrc the other two letter men
who stnrted the game. Vance and
(mother letter man were placed Into
the fray before the final whistle blew.
'I be Hoheits will face a different
team ut Fair Purk Friday afternoon
than they faced last year when Joe
llilley Cheaiuy led his gang to a 32-
0 victory. Four of the touchdowns
were his own lust yeur. Dad Amis
does not believe he has the machine
that he had at this time last year. At
this time last year the Yellow Jackets
bad held Texas University to a 0-6
count and the gang was in good con-
dition. 'lhe game last week nt Shreveport
showed Dad Amis that his men were
not In the condition they should be.
