itrlving to open their T. I. A. A.
hedule with s win.
Captain BUI nissett of Junction Is
fading the Jackets this reason. He
staunch Jacket fullback and a
nan whose ability will mean much In
he championship struggle this jear.
Ipeed and weight combined make the
liowani Payne boss one of the blu
est assets on the team and a man
vho should win all association and
111 conference honors this fall.
When Blssett Is out of the game
Ihe teammates have chosen George
Sums of Brownwood as alternate
keptaln. This sturdy nnd stocky lit
tle-guard lias figured In more than
bne Jacket win and is u fighter to the
fndt one of the old guard who has to
be carried off the field before he will
give in before another eleven.
The Jackets from last ear's squad
vlll have a weak backfield. There are
lonly two men who hate pUed mmr-'
terback positions two who have
terrd at halfback places ami a single
fullback. And this coupled with the
fact that there is no one left who has
called signals leases a backfield which I
would have a hard struggle In a
rl.nmnlnm.liln rac eo-s the T. 1. A. A.
Is expected to be this ear.
Captain Blssett Is the only fullback
back. There are two halves. 'Lap

but returned to Brownwood In the
Boring after an operation. He at-
ttnded this Institution last fall that
he would be eligible this year.
Hpraee Caldwell and Claude

Caldwell is playing Ids third season

NINE HARD GAMES ON CARD
FOR JACKETS THIS SEASON
The 1925 Howard Payue Yellow
Jacket fotballaggiegatlon will have
undoubtedly the hardest schedule
n llliin nml flnlri uinrhinn haa evpl
face1. Every member of the Texas I
conference -will be plaved and the
leading T. I. A. A. teams arc in-
eluded in that. On top ot that the
Southwestern conference champ-
ions ot 1924 havo been scheduled
and the outstanding eleceu in the
South will be met.
Theie Is some talk of a post-
season gamo during the Christmas I
holidays. Dad Amis has put out
but there has been nothing definite
given out. Th0 game will more j
than likely be played with a lead-
Ing eastern or southern team in
the event such an affair is schdeul-

The Jackets will open the car'

affair and will give the Jackets'
a chance to get Into the pennant
chase early; should they be able to
win. Otherwise It will show them
that they resemble the old gray
mare; that they aie not what they
used to be and that they will have
to hustle to win the championship
of the Texas Iutercolleglate Athle-
tic association and have to fight
lust that much harder to take the
first flae. offered by the Texas
conference. .Much less Uavlor and
Centenary.
A trip to vfihreveport Louisiana
Is scheduled for the Jackets Octo-
ber 3 when they meet the eleven
which was coached by "Bo" Mc-
Mlilian last year Centenary college.
I.ast year Bo's bunch held the Jack-
ets down and beat them out 20-10
In a stlngitig defeat. It Is this de-
feat that the Jackets nic wanting
to avenge this year.
The first home game of the sea-
son will be October 9 when the
Southwest Texas State colege Bob-
cats invade Jacketland and take on
Howard Payne. The Bobcats have

Beyond a doubt the haidost game
on the schedule will be October U
when the Jackets will make an at-
tempt to Inject their stingers into
the fierce Baylor university Bears
last year champions In the senior
athletic loop in the Southwest. To
win from Baylor will give the Yel-
low Jackets more prestige than
they have ever had. Certainly. It
will even give Howard Payne nunc
of a popular name In colleglato cir-
cles than when the Jackets humbl
ed the proud and haugty Texas A.
&. M. Farmers. Coach Anils will
prime his men for this event.
Following the Baylor affair the
Jackets will stay at homo for throe
straight games stying in Brown-

annual trip to Simmons university
is made.

the first game either will have play

mean llttlo as far as the score and
standing will be considered but It
will give Coach Amis an oppor

recruits will be able to make the
grade of a college eleven.
Coach Shelton was undecided
lat0 yesterday afternoon just what
men ho would take on! the trip
there being so many ot about the
same calibre.
The scrubs should be followed as
closely this season as the Varsity
because there should be a fair ag-
gregation representing Howard
Payne with this club. They are
fighting for the same school with
the same spirit at heart.
