First Majestic Theater, constructed in 1905. The Majestic's construction at the very gates
of Fort Worth's infamous Hell's Half Acre marked an important turning point in the city's
decades-long battle against the area's sordid variety halls. Within five years, Interstate
Amusement Company's policy of staging high-class vaudeville in decorous, elegant sur-
roundings had contributed to the demise of many of the Acre's most notorious establish-
