The Western History Association will hold its 42nd annual conference
on October 16-19, 2oo2, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The 2oo2
meeting will highlight the tensions and connections between the West's
diverse roots and its varied and continuing migrations. Panelists will
tackle aspects of this theme, such as the making and remaking of the
West through human movement, the shuffling of power, evolving ecolo-
gies, shifting relations between new and old westerners, and between
westerners and outside centers of authority. Find out more by contacting

The 7th Conference of Recovering the U.S. Hispanic Literary Heritage
will be held in Houston on November 15-16, 2oo2, in conjunction with
the American Studies Association Conference. The U.S. Hispanic Liter-
ary Heritage is a national program to identify the literary contributions of
U.S. Hispanics from colonial times to 1960. Complete information can be

As spring finally comes to Central Texas, we are basking not only in the
bright sunlight but also in the warm glow of the terrific annual meeting
that recently concluded in Corpus Christi. More than seven hundred per-
sons were in attendance at one part of the meeting or another-one of
the sessions, the twilight cruise in the bay, the tour of the King Ranch-
and everyone seems to have enjoyed themselves immensely. More than
fifty new members joined, and we distributed material to hundreds more
who may yet join.
The program committee for next year's annual meeting in El Paso
(March 6-8 at the Hilton Camino Real) is already at work and will put
the finishing touches on the program at its final meeting in May. So, if
