IN TEXAS HISTORY

The Mary M. Hughes Research Fellowship in
Texas History is awarded annually for the best
research proposal on Texas History. A twenti-
eth-century topic is preferred, but not
required.
Applications must be submitted by January 15,
2ooo. The application, which should be no
longer than one page, should specify the pur-
pose of the research, the need for the money,
and a description of the end product (article,
book, or exhibition). Please include a com-
plete vita with the application. The award will
be announced at the Association's annual meet-
ing in March 2000.Judges may withold the
award at their discretion.

The Mary M. Hughes Research Fellowship in
Texas History was established in 1999 by the
thirteen children of Mary M. Hughes, to cele-
brate their mother's 89th birthday and her
50th year in Texas. The award honors her
great love of Texas and its history.
