In this small tintype, taken by an unknown photographer ca. 1877, Drury Alien
"Dutch" Nance of Fort Griffin poses as a Wild West gunslinger. Such images
doubtless helped foster Fort Griffin's image as a violent, lawless place; the reali-
ty, however, was probably less colorful. Compare this image with the one on
