508 Southwestern Historical Quarterly
gets the sense that dealings with Mexicans were often impossible; yet
Hoard understood them and could then work his magic. Unquestiona-
bly the little railroad survived, though it never prospered. The book,
unfortunately, contains some poor quality and useless illustrations and
badly needs additional maps. But for readers interested in Mexican
railroading and twentieth-century political happenings south of the
border, this is a worthwhile work.
