Meetings
The Department of History at Texas Tech University will cosponsor
with the American Historical Association a conference on teaching his-
tory at the secondary, community college, and college levels. Speakers
from all three educational levels will present papers on a variety of
practical topics: how to teach study skills in history, teaching students
to make and use history films, teaching American history through sports,
and other approaches.

The Texas Historical Commission is holding its 1980 annual Historic
Preservation Conference in Corpus Christi at La Quinta Royale Hotel,
on April 25-26. The two-day program includes eight authoritative pre-
sentations on heritage preservation problems and issues, plus six group
discussions. The Nueces County Historical Commission is hosting a din-
ner at the Museum of Corpus Christi. Truett Latimer is executive di-
rector of the THC.
Hill Junior College of Hillsboro, Texas, was the site of the Second
Confederate History Symposium on April i9, i980. This annual event
is sponsored by the Confederate Research Center of Hill Junior College,
Hood's Texas Brigade Association, and the Texas divisions of the Sons
of Confederate Veterans and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
The theme for the 1980 symposium was "Texas in the Confederacy"
and featured presentations by five leading historians who have written
in this field. Presentations given at the 1979 symposium, on "The Trans-
Mississippi Department, CSA," are available in book form for $15.

The Society for German-American Studies and the Texas chapter of
the American Association of Teachers of German will hold a joint, two-
day symposium at the Institute of Texan Cultures at San Antonio on
April io-11, 1981. Interdisciplinary papers and slide presentations are
requested from scholars specializing in German-American cultural, in-
tellectual, and social history. The time allotted for each program par-
