Southwestern Historical Quarterly
toric Texas, a series of filmstrips and cassettes. The aim of the series is to
explain the meaning of Texas and to motivate students to learn the rela-
tionships between yesterday and today. The six filmstrips aimed at primary
students are divided as follows: Operation Attic, Sage and Soil, Beyond
Cross Timbers, The Town Builders, The Urban Frontier, and The Mean-
ing of Texas. A second group of films will be used at the fourth and fifth
grade levels. Their titles are: My Heritage, From Many Roots, Pioneers,
Trails West-Trails North, Community Builders, and The Eyes of Texas.

The Society for Industrial Archeology announces the publication of a
new semi-annual journal, IA. IA will feature scholarly papers on a wide
range of subjects dealing with our industrial and engineering past. Special
emphasis will be given to structures and sites in North America. An infor-
mational brochure and society membership applications are available from

A typical late nineteenth-century ranch complex in Palo Pinto County
is the subject of a new report from the Office of the State Archeologist.
Written by Marsha F. Jackson, the report notes excavation results and
future directions for historical and archaeological investigation at the George
Jowell ranch. The booklet costs $3.50 (180 tax for Texas residents only
included) and may be ordered from the Office of the State Archeologist,
P.O. Box 12236, Capitol Station, Austin, Texas 7871 . Checks for The
George Jowell Ranch Complex: A Report on the Preliminary Testing and
Evaluation of the Archeological and Architectural Features, should be
made payable to the Texas Historical Commission.
Several works of interest to genealogists have either been published re-
cently or will be forthcoming. Collin County (Texas) Cemetery Inscrip-
tions, Volume I, contains over 35,000 surnames and sectional maps. In-

Some Early Texas Families, by Louise Horton, has been published by
