Joseph Milton Nance, chairman of the history and government
department at Texas A&cM University, received the 1966-1967
Walter Prescott Webb History Prize. Presented every two years,
the award goes to a University of Texas graduate for a published
or unpublished work in history. The prize winning manuscript,
"The Texas-Mexican Frontier, 1842," examines a critical period
in the history of Mexican-Texan relations. The University of
Texas history department faculty members established the $100
prize in memory of their former colleague, Walter Prescott Webb.
Roger Conger, a member of the Association's Executive Coun-
cil, was recently named Chairman of the Texas Chisholm Trail
Centennial Commission, succeeding John Ben Shepperd, a life
member of the Association.
Paul F. Boller, Jr., has recently been named Acting Chairman
of the department of history at the University of Massachusetts,
Boston. Professor Boller, formerly of Southern Methodist Uni-
versity, replaces Richard Powers, who has been advanced to the
chairmanship of the Social Science Division.
The Association for the Study of Negro Life and History will
hold its Fifty-second Annual Meeting at the Voyager Inn, Greens-
boro, North Carolina, on October 12-15, 1967. The Agricultural
and Technical College of North Carolina is the host institution.

ticipation should contact the program chairman, Walter Fisher,
Morgan State College, Coldspring Lane and Hillen Road, Balti-
more, Maryland 21212.
