Monument at San Jacinto Battleground. By E. M. Schiwetz, noted Texan.
HIGH AGAINST THE SKYHigh against the sky the gigantic Texas
star atop the San Jacinto Monument
looks out on the quiet meadow ... the
fringe of moss-hung oaks that mark an
historic battlefield. Here swiftly a bloody
battle was fought . . . Santa Anna was
captured . .. the tide was turned ... and
the hardy settlers who loved freedom
enough to fight, even die for it, had won
for Texas its independence.
High against the Texas sky stand other
monuments which tell of another periodin the state's history-the derricks, the
tanks, the refinery cat crackers, the shaft
at Spindletop. These are the unique re-
minders of the state's amazing progress
and its industrial expansion.
Humble is proud to have had a part
in this period of the state's history . . .
proud of its contribution in petroleum
products, natural gas and chemicals, im-
portant factors in Texas' phenomenal
industrial development.Let Humble Touring Service, P. O. Box 2180, Houston, help
you plan a visit to San Jacinto Battleground, or to one of the
other historical shrines of Texas.
