There is a prospect that the recent book publication of the
Texas State Library by James M. Day and Ann B. Dunlap entitled
The Map Collection of the Texas State Archives, 1527-1900 may
be reviewed in this edition of the Quarterly. If not, the review
should follow in the next issue. Unquestionably the projected
book publication will be of service in many ways.
The following comment by Day, director of the Archives Divi-
sion of the Texas State Library, also shows unquestionably the
public service which has been rendered by publication of the
information in the Quarterly.
Mildred Wyatt, the librarian of Stephen F. Austin College Library
at Nacogdoches, read the articles and made an extensive photostat
order with the statement: "Your list of maps in the Southwestern
Historical Quarterly for January, 1962, makes us drool." Another
person who has been quite interested is Donald K. Ball of Corpus
Christi. He too has placed orders for a number of photostats. In-
quiries have come from all over the state as a direct result of the
publication of the description of these maps in the Quarterly.
Also, by way of continuation, the Quarterly will always be
bound to have circulation outlets not available to separate pub-
lications just as separate publications are bound to fall into
channels not covered by the Quarterly.
The Executive Council of the Texas State Historical Associa-
tion has accepted for publication a manuscript by Zelma Scott on
the "History of Coryell County." The projected volume will take
its place as the fourth in the Texas County History Series of the
Association, which already includes Western Falls County, Texas,
by Lillian S. St. Romain, A History of Young County, Texas, by
Carrie J. Crouch, and A History of Collin County, Texas, by J.
Lee and Lillian J. Stambaugh.
The Association is considering the publication of a supple-
mentary volume to the Handbook of Texas, which will contain
additions and corrections to the entries in the present two
volumes. Anyone wishing to suggest any additions or corrections
should send them to the Association without delay. All sugges-
tions will be given due consideration.111
