American scholars, especially as regards the inventarios and in-
dices of the different sets of papers, is Shepherd's Guide, sup-
plemented as regards arrangement and archive rules since the
publication of Shepherd's work by Hill's Descriptive catalogue.
Both of these works, as well as those of Bolton, P6rez, and Rob-
ertson, cited in notes 2 and 13, are among the publications of
the Department of Historical Research of the Carnegie Institu-
tion of Washington.
