Two free throws by Wayland

game added the final two points
to a six-point margin which
downed the McMurry Indians last
Saturday night 63-57.

defense held the Wayland Pio-
neers to work from the outside
and at the free throw line but
the margin at the free throw line
proved too much for the Tribes-
men as they fell to their 15th de
feat of the season against seven
wins.
Led by the 14 points of Bill
Webb the Pioneers were never
headed after the first two minutes
when Wayland's Nelson Moore
added a two-pointer to post a
4-3 advantage.
The Tribesmen had only one
man hitting in the double figures
Clarence Winn with 14 points but
every Indian scratched at least
once. Wayland's high scorers
were Bill Webb with 14 and Pete
Campbell and Nelson Moore with
12 apiece.
McMurry outshot the Pioneers
by one field goal from the floor
but Wayland hit 81 per cent of
their free throws for 21 markers
as compared to the Indian's SO per
cent and 11 points.
After leading 30-24 at halftime
the Wuyland cagers went into a
stall to break up the Indian's zone
defense but the alert Rcdmen
harassed the front men until the
stall effort was abandoned for fast
free court ball.

Well here we are again. We
arc wondering if there is any-
body who has forgotten to get
his ticket to the Athletic Banquet
Friday night? Don't forget them.
It's pretty close to the deadline
and the program should be one
of the best ever. You'd better
get on the movel
lntramurals got back into full
swing again this week. We
haven't made it over to watch
any of the competition yet but we
will this next week. The talk
on the campus is very enthusias-
tic. Keep up the spirit.
Just a hint to encourage as
many of you as possible to sign
up and participate in the ping-
pong activities on campus.
Trophies will be given to the win
ners of the tournament by the
Press Club.
Dave Brown T. C. U.'s sports
editor of Tha Skiff asked what
happened to the wrestler
Gorgeous George? We take up his
plea too. What did happen to
Gorgeous George?
Basketball for this season will
soon be in the record books along
with football. The only solace in
sports is that when one season
ends another begins. (A real
gem of logic there no?)
We took another stroll over to
watch the boys in gray getting
ready for the track and field
events the other day. The eight
boys out there are doing good
work and we are expecting great
representation from them. Good
luck gang.
Looking at the calendar and
then camparing the sports calen
dar listings it looks a little bit
seasonal heavy to us. Except for
the little glorious activity of
spring training and the activities
of the valiant but small track

Tho McMurry Indians overcame
a bad case of jitters in the last
five minutes Tuesday night to
rack the Lamar Tech Cardinals
73-G6 and Rain revenge for an
aarly season 78-49 licking handed
them in Beaumont.
The victory boosted the Indians'
.reason record to 0-15 while Lamar
Tech goes back home with a 13-10
slate.
The Cardinals playing without
their 6-8 pivot man Ken Roach
played well on the Mrange floor
hitting 41 per cent of their shots
and out-rebounding the hosts
37-29. McMurry's eager Redskins
hit 42 per cent and did a good
job of defensing the Cardinals.
Hero of the evening was Clar-
ence Winn who was a bal lof fire
on the court. He got his share
of rebounds and led the winners
with 20 points. Big Jerry Turner
got 14 for the Indians and Bobby
Williams 12 the only other Mc-
Murry players hitting in double
figures.

ever was freshman ace Bob

Tribe Has Thrte
Games to Play
The McMurry Indians will raid
three more times this season be-
fore the hunting season ends for
the baskctccrs. Two teams
East Texas State College and Mid-
western University will visit the
reservation on Feb. 23 and 25
respectively.
The next night the Redmen
stalk the Wildcats of ACC at Ben-
nett Gym on ACC campus.
Two of these foes have defeated
the Tribe once before in hard-
wood competition. Abilene Chris-
tion defeated the Indians 63-60
and the Midwestern Indians de-
feated the Redskins 81-95.
The Indians now have a
season record of eight wins and
15 losses.
