picnic and the week just
preceding it is that the wo-
men will be asking the men
for dates and paying all the
bills. It's called Twirp Week
(T-W-I-R-P stands for "The
Woman Is Requested to Pay")
or Sadie Hawkins Week
The custom started back in the
hills of the Southern United
States with a pioneer settler
Hekzebiah Hawkins and his
daughter Sadie Sadie was too
homely to find a husband so her
pappy got the idea of the Sadie
Hawkins Day race in which the
fust man Sadie caught had to
marry up with her The other
spinsters of Dogpatch reckoned
it were a good idea and since
then the Sadie Hawkins tradition
under various names has spread
over the entire nation
McMurry's Twirp Week began
yesterday From now until Tues-
day men ask for no dates For
one week it's a woman's world'
NANETTE GETS HER MAN Sonny Ehrle is trying desperately
to make his getaway but Nanette Weaver is determined. What's
up? Twirp Week when the girls make the dates and foot the bills
began yesterday. T-W-I-R-P stands for "The Woman Is Requesied
to Pay."
