There Is more to college fame
tliuii football says Fred Allen.
And lie Is out to prove It.
Each week throughout the com-
Ing Heason Fred is presenting on
his CBS "Texaco Star Theater"
program a student from one of
the country's colleges or univer-
sities selected by his fellow stu-
dents as "the most talented indi-
vidual on the campus." The tal-
ent may follow any course feasi-
ble to radio monologlst Instru-
mentalist vocalist mimic comed-
ian composer.
The lucky student is sent to
New York City with all expenses
paid. In addition ho is given $200
cash which must be put toward
tuition or college expenses.
Fred points out that such es-
tablished stars us Kay Kyser Jim-
my Stewart Colo Porter Law-
rence Tibbett Rudy Valleo and
many others are products of the
colleges of America. If they made
the grade perhaps other college
students can too. Fred in anxious
to give them the opportunity to
try.
The first student to appear on
Allen's show was James McDo-
nough Notre Dame sophomore
who came to New York for the
October 1 broadcast.

Fall Football and Hasina-
It's a sure sign that Fall has
arrived when King Football takes
over the sports pages and Ted
Huslng takes his microphones to
the nation's gridirons to describe
outstanding contests for CBS lis-
teners. Each Saturday CBS picks what
Is considers the day's outstanding
game and sends Huslng and bis
assistant Jimmy Dolan to cover
It. Columbia is not scheduling
games in advance. Results of the
previous Saturday's battles deter-
mine which game Huslng de-
scribes. Of course such classics as the
Army-Notre Dame and Army-Navy
games are automatically Included
in the schedule. This year the
Cadets and the Irish clash in New
York November 1. The Army-Navy
game takes place in Philadelphia
November 29.
