precious object of creation. I feel that I have given you pain and
boundless solicitude. For all this you will pardon me and feel that it
was not displeasure to you in any respect, but an error on my part.
My dear Margaret, we have a bright future, I hope to look to. One
that will secure to us all that mortals should anticipate, and all that
virtue can deserve. With you I feel that we are responsible not only
to the rules of morality, but to the holy precepts of our savior, Jesus
Christ!!! That a believing wife may save an unbelieving husband is
my sincere desire. My dear, I must close this letter and with it, I
repose my happiness, my fault, my honor, and my all on earth!!! Oh
that I could see you but one hour that I might enjoy your smile-But
this my dear Maggy, is too trite. I might be so situated that my "face
wou'd hurt me" were [it] to be seen by the world!
I pray you to give my kind love to our dear sister and Captain
Bledsoe. Assure them of my kind affection and wishes for their prosperity. My dear Wife, I pray you to be assured of my entire devotion,
and that I will not be happy one moment, until we meet! My Love, I
am doing all in my power to promote our mutual interest. [blurred]
is well and shall bear me to my dear Maggy-look for me by the
10th proximo. I have written to our dear Mother! The old lady requires
and deserves all our reverence and love-we must not fail to
pay her the homage due to her.3
I am truly thy husband
