GENERAL INFORMATION
College of Arts and Sciences
FLOYD STOVALL, Dean*
The primary function of the College of Arts and Sciences is to
provide the intellectual discipline and cultural experience that are es-
sential to a liberal education and to prepare students for entering
professional schools, for teaching, for certain types of professional
work, and for graduate study and research. The normal program leading
to the bachelor's degree offers opportunities for specialization as well
as a general education.
ORGANIZATION
The College of Arts and Sciences, consisting of fourteen depart-
ments, is organized in three divisions, as follows: Social

ADMISSION
The requirements for admission to the College of Arts and Sciences
are the same as those outlined earlier in thi, catalog for North Texas
State College as a whole.
DEGREES
The College of Arts and Sciences offers courses leading to the
following degrees: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science in Biology,
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Bachelor of Science in Mathematics,
Bachelor of Science in Physics, Bachelor of Science in Medical Tech-
nology, and Bachelor of Science in Library Service. The curriculum
*Resigned. Services of this office are performed by the Dean of
Academic Administration.
**Bible is not a department in the College, but for convenience of
reference, Bible courses are described along with departmental courses.
***Philosophy is not at present a department. Courses are offered
under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Six semester hours of philosophy may be credited towards the fulfill-
ment of the required twelve semester hours of social science. A student
whose major is in the Division of Humanities may count philosophy as
part of the thirty-six hours he must complete outside the division.81
