G (Texas Volunteer Guard) on their collars. Davis, sitting below, wears a square cap decorated with an eagle, and the other soldier, standing above Davis at right, wears a campaign hat and appears to have the shoulder mark of a first lieutenant. Description: Postcard of an army encampment (a bivouac) at an Army exhibition in Galveston, 1914. Tents are pitched across a grass field, with soldiers seated in groups or walking around them. Larger wooden encampments are visible in the left background, possibly built to resemble the Alamo with barred windows and arched walls. Soldiers stand on the structure, looking out from above. Other Army buildings are in the background at right.

[Military Parade, Downtown Midland]

Description: Photograph of an U.S. army vehicle in a military parade (part of the Searchlight Battalion, on maneuvers) passing through downtown Midland on April 7, 1941. The parade passes in front of the courthouse, visible at left in front of the Petroleum Building. A crowd of people have lined the streets along the sidewalk to watch the parade.
