The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with John Unger. Unger was born in 1920 in Austria and immigrated to Missouri when he was a child. In 1939, he joined the Navy and trained as a hospital corpsman. After various schools and duty stations in the US, Unger volunteered to go to Wake Island in late 1941.
