This design "is to provide a simple and efficient device which may be suspended in front of open fireplaces or grates for the purpose of preventing the frequent and sometimes fatal accidents which are directly due to the absence of reliable safe-guards. Animal Poke.
Patent for a new and improved animal poke. This design "is to construct a device which may be secured to horses, cattle, and other animals, and which will effectually prevent fence-jumping, while at the same time allow the animal free use of [its] head and limbs, doing away with any tendency to cramp the wearer" (lines 17-23). It consists, "with bar and a means for suspending it beneath the animal's body and the bar, which is secured at its outer end to the animal's head, of a hinge to the opposite side of which the adjacent ends of the said bars are pivoted" (lines 78-83).

Patent for an attachment for thrashing-machines "for cutting the bands on the sheaves of wheat, rice, or other grain, to spread the loosened bundles out uniformly, and to then feed them thus spread out into the thrashing-machine, whereby the strain on the machine can be made more uniform" (lines 15-20) and the capacity and efficiency can be increased.

Patent for an improved way of constructing piers, jetties, breakwaters, and similar structures. "It can be constructed from boats, barges, or from a trestle, or can be built continuously from a starting-point on shore to the objective point in the lake, bay, gulf, or other body of water" (lines 17-21). This invention is especially useful for places that don't have banks or ledges.
Bridge.
Patent for a bridge of "simple and strong construction in metal of very low cost and light weight, using only such materials as are easily available, being also of easy construction and well adapted to resist washouts" (lines 9-13).

This design "is composed of two parts, the upper end forming what may be termed a 'buckle proper,' to secure the end of a strap, and the lower ends formed into curved portions which fit one within the other and constructed to interlock, so that the lower end is adapted to catch a chain, bit, or other device which it is desired to connect a strap to, the . . . parts forming a hinge, whereby they can be turned one upon the other and separated entirely, or at their upper ends to allow the adjustment of the strap secured thereto" (lines 18-30).

This design "relates to improvements in butt-boards for grain-binders to even the butts of the gavel of grain to be bound and to also adjust said gavel in regard to length so that short grain will be bound near the center as well as long grain . . . Patent for car-coupling. The object of this invention is to provide an improved automatic car-coupling of simple, durable, and effective construction that will permit the necessary longitudinal and lateral play of the coupling-link to correspond with inequalities of the track, facilitate the turning of curves, and enable the coupling to accommodate itself to draw-heads of unequal height.
