In regards of Janice Wiggins, Visual Arts Special, Dallas Public Schools and her contract with North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, hoping that she could be under an extended contract through June 14 - 25, 1993 to finish work she has started with three of her art specialists in planning the 1993 Dallas Institute. The Dallas Institute is a complex staff development experience for classroom teachers and art specialists in the district. Included in the letter is a detailed list of Wiggin's responsibility and her expected goals. In regards to Biggers being unable to speak at the opening session during NTIEVA's summer institute. Reynolds writes the institute has been showing Biggers' "Hampton video" to their teachers and including his work from the Dallas Museum of Art into their study print collection. Reynolds writes that Jack Davis, Bill McCarter and herself have worked with Ollie Theisen to present a teacher workshop in conjunction with Bigger's exhibit in Mount Pleasant and she is working with others to produce an education video for the students and are requesting Biggers permission to use some of his images in the video. Enclosed in the letter to Biggers, Reynolds has included some material that provides more information about their project and the Institute.

Photocopy of a letter from Jack Davis and Bill McCarter, co-directors of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Char Woolery, Acting Superintendent for Dallas ISD. Davis and McCarter start the letter by congratulating Woolery on his new position as Acting Superintendent, giving him well wishes for the extremely important position. However, Davis and McCarter continue stating they are not thrilled with the principals participation in activities during the Summer Institutes. Stating that the leadership within the individual schools need an understanding of discipline-based art education and that they are planning a special day for administrators to construct the curriculum before any implementation can take place. Davis and McCarter have checked every district calendar in their consortium and determined that the administrator day would happen on June 8th, 1993, however, they regret to inform Woolery that Dallas principals will not be able to participate due to June 8th not being workable for them. Davis and McCarter then propose that they'd have another opportunity for the administrators specially for DISD in the fall. The letter ends with the promise of sending an invitation to the administrators of DISD at a later date.

McCarter writes that he has reviewed the draft of the National Arts Standards, paying close attention to the implication for aesthetics in art. Describing his recent trip to Canada, McCarter mentions that many presentations encountered the same problems in identifying common traits found in art. McCarter continues to say he does not see the dilemma in using the word aesthetic as it means various things to different people.

McCarter and Davis write that they support the Californian and Regional Institutes doing a super-session at the Baltimore conference, but the presentations need to be more balanced between what works and what doesn't. They also like the idea of each institute doing a follow up session, identifying three or four topics in the areas where they have been successful.
