Satirical engraving of William Winstanley or "Poor Robin" circa 1600. The print was printed and published by Ben Harris in Bell Alley in Coleman Street, London, England. The image shows the poet Winstanley standing in his studio with a pen in one hand and a cup of wine in the other. He appears surrounded by alchemical symbols in a cloud around his head and on a square he stands in on the floor.

Satirical Print of English preacher, political advisor and soldier who supported the Parliamentary cause during the English Civil War. The engraving, circa. 1600, shows Hugh Peters with a devil on his back with each foot on a stack of books that correspond to church and state while he holds the ties to bags of money that are labeled with "Revenue", "Plunder", "Thimbles" and "Benefices". Symbols of the monarchy and the church appear on the floor by his feet.

Engraving by Boston printmaker Thomas Clarke showing a man and woman weeping into handkerchiefs in front of the grave of George Washington. Washington's monument includes his face engraved below a cherubim and the epitaph "There is Reft in Heaven" and is set at the foot of a weeping willow. The two figures are being consoled by a figure of Hope, who stands by an anchor and points to heaven.
[17th Century Spanish Carta Excutoria]
Opening page of a 17th century Spanish Baroque Carta executoria, providing geological evidence of aristocratic lineage with no trace of peasant, Jewish or Moorish blood. More than simply asserting one's high standing, such documents exempted the holder from civil suits and taxation. Carta executoria were often ostentatiously illuminated (as here), to suggest the wealth and taste of the grantee. Displays large intricate initial "D" (i.e. Don Carlos, King of Spain from 1665 - 1700) in the form of an ornate fountain incorporating fish, snakes, birds, and foliage.

Susanna, a Sacred Oratorio
This is the score of Handel's "Susanna," a sacred oratorio in three parts published by Samuel Arnold in ca. 1795. Grove Music established 1748 as the composition year of this oratorio and not 1743, as stated on the t.p. The first performance was given on February 10, 1749. The performance forces include: soloist (SATB), mixed chorus (SATB), strings (violins, viola, violoncellos, contra basses), woodwinds (oboe (2) and bassoon), trumpets (2), and continuo. . Although composed by Handel in 1743 and published by A table of contents appears on p.205 listing the first lines of texts of arias and recitatives for each of the parts and an appended air.

Etching and engraving of "David Tenier's House" published on August 15, 1757. The design was attribute to Dutch miniaturist David Eniers the Younger (1610-1690) and was printed by English printmaker Thomas Major (1720-1799). The image shows a large manor house on the right edge of a river bank with a bridge arching over the river. A group of three fisherman are gathered on the shore in the foreground communicating the scale of the rest of the scene to the viewer.

Nine maps depicting the travels of the author to accompany his journals. The first map shows routes through parts of the Middle East and Asia with references to the Orenburgh Expedition. The second map shows routes in Northern Europe and parts of Russia, including towns in Prussia, Germany, and the Netherlands. The third map shows various portions of the Volga River in four separate, overlapping insets with nearby towns noted. The fourth map shows an area around the Eastern Ocean including present-day Saudi Arabia and India; regions and towns are noted as well as geographic features (with relief shown pictorially). The fifth map shows land around the Caspian Sea including routes of the Russian Embassy, towns, and geographic features (with relief shown pictorially). The sixth map shows a portion of Russia depicting the Orenburgh Expedition as well as towns, landmarks, and geographic features which are marked pictorially. Le tableau parlant: comédie-parade, en un acte et en vers
This is a 1773 printed copy of the libretto of "Le tableau parlant" (The talking picture), a one-act comic opera by M. Anseaume, set to music by Grétry. The opera was staged for the first time by the troupe of Italian actors of King Louis XV, on Wednesday, September 20, 1769. The back of the t.p. lists the names of the original actors who performed the characters of the opera at its premier: Isabelle (Madame Trial), [Jean-Louis Laruette] (Cassandre, Isabelle's tutor), [Madame Laruette (Colombine, Isabelle's lady-in-waiting), M. Trial (Léandre, Cassandra's nephew, who is in love with Isabelle), and [[Jean-Baptiste Clairval] (Léandre's valet). The final scene is a vaudeville sung by all of the characters. The music of the vaudeville is included at the end on pp. [45-48]. The library's copy of the libretto is bound with the libretto of Jean François Marmontel's comic opera "La fausse magie."

La fausse magie
This is a ca. [1775] printed copy of the libretto of "La fausse magie" (The false magic), a two-act comic opera by Jean François Marmontel, set to music by Grétry. [The opera was staged for the first time at the Théâtre Français à La Haye, on Thursday, November 30, 1775.] The final scene of act two contains the music of the couplets on pp. 47-48. The library's copy of the libretto is bound with the libretto of M. Anseaume's comic opera, "Le tableau parlant."

Etching print of a woman hovering over a dead man washed up on the shore of the sea. The print, "Elegy" was designed and printed by John Hamilton Mortimer on December 8th, 1778.

Etching print included as the frontispiece of a unknown volume printed in 1780. The plate includes a classic biblical image of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden at the moment the snake offers the fruit to Eve. The image includes excellent details of various animals scattered around the pint such as a frog, various insects, birds and a partially hidden cow laying in the tree line.
