[Manuscript Leaf from 15th Century, Germany]
A manuscript leaf from 15th Century, Germany. The manuscript leaf is laid out with two (2) columns and scribed in late Gothic script. There are musical neums on 4-line staff (by the 16th-century the 5-line staff became more standardized) Breviary. The manuscript leaf was created on vellum parchment and used both red, blue, and black gall ink for the script. The leaf is labelled as page twenty-one (21).

Early German edition of Heidi: How She Used What She Had Learned by Johanna Spyri. The entire cover of the book is a red-orange color. At the top of the front cover is an illustration of a cabin nestled in front of a grove of evergreen trees. In the background are mountains resting against a sky with clouds. Wrapping around the illustration is another illustration of pink flowers with green stems and leaves spanning the height of the cover. On the spine is the author's name, the word "Geschichten" meaning "stories" in German, and the volume number. On the page of the first chapter is a black and white illustration of a field of flowers in front of a lake with the mountains in the background reflecting off of the water. On page 59 is a full page black and white illustration of Heidi reading a book to an old woman lying in a bed. Despite there being a chair next to her, Heidi is standing next to the bed to read. The woman in the bed has her hands folded across her lap and her eyes are closed like in Christian Prayer. On the first page of the seventh chapter is an illustration of the cabin again but this time there is a boy standing out front, herding goats. By the cabin, across from the road, is a mountain stream with a bridge overtop to cross. Further down the road is another cabin, next to the stream. In the background is a forest of evergreen trees climbing the mountains. On the first page of the eighth chapter is an illustration of a road with one side lined by evergreen trees and the other side lined by a wooden fence. Down the road is a man walking with a cane. …
Heidis Lehr u Wanderjahre
Early German edition of the first part of Heidi, called Heidi: Her Years of Wandering and learning by Johanna Spyri. The entire cover of the book is a faded red-orange color. The front cover of the book has the title and author's and publisher's names in black, gothic font. At the top of the cover is an illustration of a cabin in the mountains bordered by trees. Wrapping around that illustration and twining down the cover is a flowering plant with leaves and vines. On the first blank page are some hand written notes, possibly from previous owners. On the spine is the author's name, the word "stories" in German, and the volume number. In the book are black and white illustrations, one of which is a road in the mountains. On one side of the road are some evergreen trees and on the other side is a wooden fence. Further down the road is a man walking with a cane. In the distance are more tree and mountains.

Early German edition of Heidi by Johanna Spyri and illustrated by Karl Mühlmeister. The front cover the book has a very worn dust cover were parts of the have been replaced with semitransparent paper. The illustration on the cover is of Heidi standing barefoot in a grassy field with one of her arms petting a goat with a bell on its neck. In her other hand she is holding a bouquet of flowers. Behind them in the background are the tops of mountains coming up from the ground. The dust jacket's spine section has more damage that was repaired in the same manner as the front cover. Behind the repaired sections are the title and author's name. In the center of the spine has stripes and a bouquet of flowers as embellishments. On the title page has the author's name, the titles of the book, as a singular abridged version and the unabridged versions. It also has the revisor's, illustrator's and publisher's names. On the opposite page is an illustration of Heidi and a goatherd boy standing in a grassy field with goats. In the distance is a cabin with some fencing and tall evergreen trees around it. In the grassy field is a small road winding down a hill and trees dotting the field. In the background is a forest of evergreen trees in front of a range of mountains. at the bottom left corner is a note saying the illustration is from page 31. On page 49 is an illustration of Heidi and her grandfather sitting on stools by the fire while another boy stands at the front, holding the door open. Heidi: A Story for Children and Those Who Love Children
Early edition of Heidi by Johanna Spyri and translated by Louise Brooks. The cover of the book is a light blue color with black ink. Starting at the top and reaching towards the middle of the cover is the branch of an evergreen tree with long thin needles. The illustration carries onto the spine of the book which also has the title and the name of the publisher. Also on the spine is a strip of paper with "GCW" on it for Gustine Courson Weaver. On the title page is faded text with the title, subtitles, and names of the author, translator, and publisher. On the opposite page is a full color illustration of Heidi playing outside. She has one foot on the ground and the other in the air. Her arms are raised up above her head. In the background is dark green foliage and a dirt path. The illustration is captioned with, "Heidi spring joyfully about." Below the caption is a handwritten note in pencil.
