Franklin informs Moore that there have been many deaths in town, including Mallie Donnell, Mrs. Holder, and Tom Berry's wife. Franklin and Dodd both ask Moore to visit soon. Henry is a little sick, but will be making a trip to Texas. She believes that Bessie will marry John Turner. She had some visitors and was surprised that Mollie Love is still alive. She comments on the styles. She is expecting Minnie to come visit them when she gets back from her trip. She mentions the odd spring and winter they had. She talks about her cow and sow. She had more visitors. She is tired of writing so will close the letter. Will says he will also write.

He is going to let her stay til Emmet's school closes and he hopes she will behave herself.

She has fallen in love with him, although she has only known him for two months. She asks that Linnet tell no one except Claude. She doesn't know how she admired J. M. Taylor. She spent time with people from home. She went to a play with some friends. She called home and learned that Linnet was not coming. It was a disappointment for her because she had told Mrs. White Linnet was coming. She doesn't know what she is going to do for the summer, she doesn't want to go home. She mentions that everyone will be out of town and she got invited to go to New Mexico, but she doesn't know if she has funds and is waiting to hear from someone. She still plans to go visit Linnet in September and while there to see Mrs. Johnson's home. She talks about her new hat and her new dress. She thinks she will take more classes. She asks that Linnet write a long letter.

She stresses that Birdie want to see Linnet very badly. In the letter, Matilda updates the Moore family on the happening in Gallatin and the news includes: a note on the letter that was sent to Abe and Bettie Franklin from the Moore family, family health updates, details on William Dodd's trip to Kentucky, news about Bettie's complaint about another "spell" and how she has been overworking herself, an update on the weather and the lack of rain, a dialogue about Tobe and what he has been up to lately, a discussion on how the weather has not seem to have affected the plants and fruit trees as much as expected, a dialogue about a photograph of Willie Bratney that was sent to the Moore family, a brief on correspondence received from a family member, news on the many deaths this spring, a dialogue on the future visits of family, details on the weather and that it has rained the next day the letter was started on May the twenty fifth, updates on Dinky and Will's gardening endeavors, a discussion of what fruits are available for preserves and for baking, and a note on Dinky's poultry and the amount of butter she has to sell. Matilda closes the letter by stating that she hopes the Moore family could visit and for the family to write to her soon.

This is a letter from the Charles B. Moore Collection. It is written by Sally Thornhill and is addressed to the Moore family. In this letter, Sally informs the Moore family of the goings-on in White Hill, Tennessee. The news includes: a confirmation on the receipt of Moore's correspondences, general updates on the family's well-being at present, a discussion about the vegetable garden and the fruit that is currently available for harvest, news about the crops, a dialogue about measles, a discussion about family's travels and who is in town at present, updates on correspondences received, and general community news. She begins a letter to Mary on the third page of this letter. In Mary's letter, Thornhill discusses her health, notes that the family has received word from Birdie McGee, details her happiness for seeing things grow again,and mentions the condition of her flowers. She mentions that she has finished soap making and tells Mary Ann about the obituaries of kin. An aside at the top of this page notes that she is sad to hear about Laura and Jack's health and gives details about Jack's family who reside in Tennessee. She closes the letter to Mary and begins another letter to Charles, dated May 24, 1899. In this letter, she discusses the Will's conditions, notes that Mr. Thornhill is on his way to Springfield to pay taxes, and news about family members. She closes her letter by noting that she wants the Moore family to write and sends her best wishes. The envelope is included with the letter.

Will is enjoying good health with Alfred May cooking for him. He visited Alice and saw Birdie and Frank. He is building a cabin for Mr. Holder and he lost some lambs this past winter. He is thinking of selling Birdie's sow and piglets. If he can get enough work done over the summer, he wants to go visit in the fall. Moore's subscription went out and Will received the news that the money made it there okay. He talks about the troupe he is in and how they can see the play he is part of. He sends some of the lines of the play he stars in to Linnet.
