He is a janitor for North Austin white school. The home is surrounded by the richest white citizens in Austin. He has been offered a handsome price for this place on the account of its surroundings but he is holding it for a higher price, which he feels confident he will get.

Friendly R. Rice

Description: Portrait of Friendly R. Rice, principal of the Blackshear School of Austin, Texas from 1931 - 1972. Mr. Rice initiated the hot lunch program and the first black elementary school library in Texas. The F. R. Rice Secondary School is named in his honor.

G.W. Norman School Faculty

Description: Photograph of the faculty from the G.W. Norman Elememtary School in Austin, TX around 1970. The 3rd lady on the left is Ida Hunt. She would become principal of Blackshear Elementary School. Also, Mr. Allen standing in the back was the current principal at the time, and also taught at Blackshear, in Austin, under F. R. Rice.
