Caldwell expresses her appreciation for the letter from Carswell and for his friendship advising that she had heard Walter say many times that "there isn't any one in the world, outside my own family, that I love more than I do Tommy Carswell". She discusses Walter's death and her decision to stay in their home in order to have a place for the children to come together.
