[Wounded Cavalry Horses]
The caption on the postcard reads: Wounded Cavalry Horses. These two unidentified soldiers are tending to the three wounded horses in this postcard image. All three horses have deep tissue lacerations to their front legs and chest areas that were cause by barbed wire fencing. Apparently the horses were caught up in a stampede of horses. As a result of the stampede, several of the stampeding horses were caught up in the barbed wire fencing.
Wounded Civilian
Photograph of a wounded civilian. The wounded man is being assisted by at least one member of the Mexican Red Cross. The injured man has suffered some type of serious injury to his left leg. The large bandage to his left leg indicates that he had probably received some kind of gunshot wound to that leg. This photo of this wounded man exiting the building, perhaps a hospital, was taken after the wounded man had received his medical attention and after the man had been bandaged up. The same wounded man can also be seen being carried (by the same people) into the same unknown building in the photograph that is titled: "Wounded Man", EPPL A1738. In the photograph that is titled “Wounded Man”, the injured man’s leg does not have a bandage on it so it was taken before this photograph. The location is somewhere in Juarez.

The image is of four horses who are wounded with cuts to the tops of their front legs, chests, and points of shoulder. Two men in uniform stand between the horses and hold them steady for the picture. The group is standing near a wooden building, and in the background other buildings such as homes are visible. The Franklin Mountains are also visible in the background, as the picture is facing west. Text on the back of the postcard says: "These four horses are part of a bunch of forty thou stampeded at Ft. Bliss; about nine killed themselves, and there are several others too badly cut to get out of the ret. stables to be foto'd. These are barbed wire cuts. Hope you are OK. Walter."
Wounded Insurrecto
Photograph of a wounded revolutionary soldier. A wounded revolutionary soldier has been taken off a train car and is being transported to an unknown location. It has been conservatively estimated that as many as 1 million people, including civilians, were killed during the Mexican Revolution. Source - Encyclopedia Americana (2003). Other sources have put the total death toll at more than 2 million.
Wounded Man
Photograph of a wounded man. This unidentified wounded man is being carried into this building by several members of the Mexican Red Cross. During the Mexican Revolution, the Mexican Red Cross of Ciudad Juarez was also being assisted by doctors and nurses from El Paso. The man at the far right is wearing the medical Red Cross symbol on his left shoulder. How the wounded man received his injuries is not known nor can the severity of his injuries be determined from the angle of this photograph. It is also not clear if the wounded man is a Mexican Revolucionario or just a regular civilian. An unknown Mexican civilian is also assisting the Red Cross personnel. The location is Ciudad Juarez.
Wounded Mexican
Photograph of an unknown wounded Mexican individual. There is no accompanying information given about this photograph. The four men are carrying the wounded person to an unknown destination, perhaps to a waiting horse and wagon. The individual is presumed alive and wounded because there is no coffin and also because the top blanket is not completely draping the entire body. A train is visible in the distant background. It seems very reasonable to conclude that the wounded individual just came off that train. Another uncertainty about this photograph is whether the individual, who is being carried, is male or female. Lastly, we also do not know if the wounded person is an innocent civilian or an active participant of the Mexican Revolution.

[Wounded Soldier]
The postcard caption partially reads: Survivor of the Battle of Carrizal. It seems that the African American sergeant is the recent survivor of the Battle of Carrizal (Metz, Leon, Fort Bliss, page 83). The African American sergeant has three chevrons on his right uniform sleeve and appears to be one of the highest ranking men among this group of men. He is also wearing driver's goggles on his hat. There is no accompanying information given about his identity. According to feedback from a Portal user, "The unidentified soldier is almost certainly Sergeant Walter Lyons, Troop C, 10th Cavalry, born either 1883 or 1886 in Tennessee, killed while stationed at Fort Huachuca, AZ on 25 Nov 1922. He was survived by his wife Ellis Douglas Lyons and two small children (about 1 and 2 yrs of age.)" The postcard was post marked out of El Paso, Texas, February circa 1915 – 1920 and is addressed to: Mrs. C H Breslin, Union Hotel, Altoona, Pennsylvania.

In El Paso, and at the turn of the 20th century; many homes in the outlying areas of the city still did not have plumbing so fresh water had to be delivered daily. The water barrel is covered by a thick burlap cover and next to the water barrel is a wash basin. Their is no information about the identify of the young boy nor of the exact location of where this image was captured. A white rooster walks along the fence line.
