[U.S. Cavalry Crossing Pontoon Bridge]

Description: Photograph of U.S. Cavalry Brigade troops returning to the U.S. via a pontoon bridge from Juarez, Mexico on June 16, 1919. In each pontoon boat is a soldier looking on as the line of cavalry troops and horses passes by. Information on the back of the photo reveals that this bridge was located near present day Ascarate Park (in the lower valley of El Paso).

Description: Photograph of a U.S. Cavalry unit. This Cavalry unit is parading somewhere in El Paso, Texas. The riders are riding along in columns of five and are being lead by a squad leader who most likely would have been a corporal or a sergeant. Just beyond the Cavalry unit and dust is the U.S. Army band. The Army band is also on horseback and can be seen playing their band instruments.

[U.S. Soldiers at the International Bridge]

Description: Photograph of a group of U.S. soldiers at the El Paso International Bridge on the U.S. side in 1916, preparing to go elsewhere. Each soldier has their rifle, a backpack, canteen, ammunition, and a distinct belt with pouches to hold items in. Among the many duties assigned, guarding the international bridges was a high priority at the time. An early twentieth century bicycle can be seen next to a cluster of soldiers, leaning up against a beam.
