Description: Stephen E. Reed served as Mayor of Palestine from 1931 until his death in November 1934 and is buried in the East Hill section of the Palestine City Cemetery. Palestine's first airport, a 265 acre site located seven miles west of Palestine, was named for him. He was married to Mabel Gooch Reed, a daughter of John Young Gooch, in March 1900. The Reeds lived at 501 S. Magnolia for many years.

Description: John Fletcher Watts was born in Sumter County, S.C. on March 22, 1836. He was a son of Hampton and Lenna Sarah Brown Watts and married Martha E. Burton on March 18, 1861. She was born in Mississippi on August 7, 1845 and died in Texas on June 22, 1923. John enlisted for service in the War of Secession at Palestine on April 11, 1863. Description: J.J. Word, son of Col T.J. Word, a congressman from Mississippi, was a lawyer, and was considered a lovable character around town. He was born on April 20, 1843 and married C.A. Sterne’s daughter, Katherine. He was elected Mayor of Palestine in 1889 and served until 1891. He passed away on October 19, 1909 and is buried in the Old section of the Palestine City Cemetery.

Description: Tin type image of Lewallen Conaway, who was born March 14, 1832 in Mississippi and died September 10, 1862, the son of James Sr. and Mary Conaway. He was a Private in Co. A of the 20th Texas Cavalry, CSA, during the War of the Rebellion and possibly died during the war. A search of known burials in Houston and Anderson Counties reveal no burial location for him. Description: Dickson T. Carrick (b. 1872) and Willard W. Carrick (b. 1875). These two boys were somehow related to James "Jim" Conaway. Raised in, Waxahachie, Texas by their parents, White L. Carrick and Camilla Rozina (Thompson) Carrick. The father died in 1884 and the mother re-married and they moved to Dallas around 1889 or 1890.
