Description: J.J. Word, son of Col T.J. Word, a congressman from Mississippi, was a lawyer, and was considered a lovable character around town. He was born on April 20, 1843 and married C.A. Sterne’s daughter, Katherine. He was elected Mayor of Palestine in 1889 and served until 1891. He passed away on October 19, 1909 and is buried in the Old section of the Palestine City Cemetery.
