The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral monologue by an unknown veteran. In May 1944, while on patrol in the Philippine jungles, his unit came under fire and one of the men was severely wounded with a bayonet. His colonel had prohibited the men from using their machine gun at close range, but with a shortage of rifles they were left with no choice.
