About the Collection

The Texas Mesquiter was founded in April of 1882 by Robert Snead Kimbrough, a businessman from Mesquite, Texas, who would later serve the community as a Representative and Senator in the Texas Legislature.

Now called the Mesquite News, it is currently the oldest operating newspaper in Dallas County, and the second oldest continuously operating newspaper in the State of Texas. As one of the region’s oldest newspapers, The Texas Mesquiter is a valuable source of historical information about the city of Mesquite and its residents.
