Judge Joseph A. Carroll Collection
History
Judge Carroll was a founding father of Denton as well as a significant player before, during, and after the Civil War in shaping North Texas. A great deal of these correspondences involve his relationship with North Texas and Southern Oklahoma Indians and their involvement in the Civil War. The letters to his wife reflect the harshness of the times as well as providing a unique insight into a special relationship between a husband and wife during this tumultuous period in Texas history.
