Photograph of a typical entrance set in an inside corner on the 1895 Ellis County Courthouse in downtown Waxahachie, Texas. There are four main entrances set on the cardinal points of the compass. The Romanesque building was designed by architect James Riley Gordon. The building is massive limestone in gray for the foundation and Burnet limestone for structure, columns of rose colored granite columns, Pecos Red sandstone was used for arches, columns, and string courses. There are eagles and gargoyles for ornamentation.

This building has a Texas Historical Commission historical marker outlining its history on the center column. The building is in the Classic Revival style and the upper part is ornamented with a white stone top cap that is supported by white stone carved consoles (brackets). The top floor is set back and has an ornamental white stone string course around the top of the next floor down, the top floor of the main part of he building. The windows are grouped in twos, threes, and fours, separated by red brick pilasters. Between the pilasters, the windows have a white stone string course forming the window ledges, and the tops of the windows have lentils for brick support. The ground floor has been modified to accommodate the Capital One Bank. The ground floor walls and foundation was built of steel reenforce concrete.
