Wht la: that elusive "Christmas
Spirit" of -which" wo hear bo much?
With xexams hanging in tho air It la
perhaps a little hard for us to catch
a vision ot It? but wo know that a
few dreams of homo and 'thoughts of
the holidays will bring a tingle to ones
body a smllo to one's llpe and a. Joy In
one's heart. Wo Jcnow thero is a. feel
ing In tho air a suppressed excite-
ment a glad unutterable Joy on tho in
side. We know that tho holly and tho
mistletoe breath forth a subtle spirit
of "cood things coming."
But did you over stop to 'think ot
the deeper meaning of the "Christmas
Spirit V . It is tho spirit vhlch be
longs to the founder of the glad day
and should it not belong especially to
that day of "days?1
The spirit Is that of forgetting self
In doing for others. If you havo miss.
ed. the Christmas spirit try this and
see if you can't find it. But Just to
start tho glad old echo ringing Here's
a ''Merry merry Christmas" to you
and a Happy Beautiful New Year."
Duo to exams and the approaching
holidays this will be the laBt issue
of the Brand for 191&-rtho end 6f the
initial t.erm of its existence. It has
been an enjoyable term although a
tr.ifle Btronuous. Ab YOU nave put
something Into it YOU havo mado It;
as YOU havo subscribed for it YOU
have mado it possible. As you have
dono neither 'you havo In reality cast
a slur upon it. Tho Brand can' be only
what the students of Simmons make it
Those who havo put valuablo timo and
effprt into it shall bo recognized as a
real part of tho Brand for 1917.'
But It is hoped that every student
of old Sim will feel that the UraiW Is
1HS paper a field for his best efforts
and a true mirror of the collego life.
Tho Brand received tho usuai en
thuslastlc applauso fortthe selections
rendered in chapel Tuesday morning
which were well-deserving' of such
hearty approval; but referring to Dr.
Cooper's speech again wo would re-
inind you that It did not rpcelv.e tho
proper' response in that other "hand
f .-motion!" The Band Is one of the
things that puts LIFE into Simmons
ypu qaa not afford to be lacking in
