McClarty sells out

Dr. William J. Teague president of

Monday and unavailable for comment.
The university will not make a lump
sum payment to McClarty said

1972 as banquet supervisor and became
the cafeteria manager In 1979. She was
given the Outstanding Staff Member
Award in 1061.
Dr. William J. Teague university
president said "No member of the
ACU family has given more of them-
selves to their specific assignments
than has Nancy Zlckefoose. Her
dedication to students has been par-
ticularly exemplary and her com-
mitment to quality has been unrelen-
ting." "She will do well In this new
assignment" he said.
Zickefoose's resignation goes into
effect Dec. 16.

Walling was born Sept. 13 1907 in
paylon N M but his parents moved to
Amarillo when he was a month old and
the panhandle city became his
hometown. Walling graduated from
high school In Amarillo in 1925 and
worked for the Fort Worth and Denver
Railroad for a year before enrolling in
ACC. He received ids bachelor's degree
in math in 1930. While at ACC he met
Thelma Bernard of San Antonio. The
couple married July 5 1930 in Dallas.
They had one daughter Jo Ann now
Mrs. David Hatbert of Abilene
After graduation Walling went .to
work in Dallas for Geophysics Service
the forerunner of Texas Instruments In
1933 a co-worker quit to start his own
company. Walling joined him and
tpether they started. Western
Geophysical Co. Walling was chief of
tho first party crew of geophvsicists
sent out by the company

Leaving the store won't be easy
McClarty said. "When you get up every
morning for nearly 36 years and go to
work in the same place it's never easy
te leave."
In those nearly 36 years as owner and
manager of the store McClarty said he"
had only missed two days of work.
McClarty said the Texas State
Grocery Association has been in con
tact with him about a possible job as a
public relations agent for the
organization.
"I tokl them I was interested but 1
am net going to make any com-
mittments right new" the 97-year-old
grocer said.
The building adjacent to McCIarty's
also has been purchased by the
university and will be held for future
expansion Welborn said.
That location was owned by McClarty
until recently when it was sold to Chai
International. The univerity purcliased
it from Chai International assuming
the note McClarty had he said.
"They were paying on a note which
ACU bought and will pay me out in
monthly installments like the store"
McClarty said.
"This note fa set up for monthly
payments" Wclborn said. "Each
payment Includes principle and interest
on the note."

College Bowl matches will be
Tuesday and Thursday said Kelly
Hargrove College Bowl co-director.
Hargrove senior elementary
education major from Blue Springs
Mo. said two consolation matches
are scheduled for Tuesday night. The
matches will be in the ACU-TV studio
located in Room 114 of the Don Morris
Center.
Sub T-16 wiM play the Gradients at 8
p.m. and Team X will play GATA III
at 8:30 p.m. said Hargrove. The
winners of the two matches will
compete for the consolation title said

Two College Bowl teams the
Nerdbrains and Bourjeoys White
Trash voluntarily changed their
names to comply with the academic
image of College Bowl said Dr. Gary
D. McCaleb vice president and dean
of campus life.
The Nerdbrains are now Team X
and the Bourjeoys White Trash are
now Totally Unobtrusive.
McCaleb said a suggestion was
made that the two teams change their
names due to the broadcasting of the
matches on cable TV
McCaleb said none of teams had
been told they had to change their
name.

Bowl tournament will receive a J600
scholarship provided by the Women
for ACU Each team member will
receive a $100 scholarship for the
spring semester.

Bowl play Tuesday andThursday.
"I wasn't even aware that they had
changed their names" he said.
.McCaleb said the teams should
review their !rojccted image on
television in previous matches.
- "For any of the teams that were
going on television their dress and
conduct should be consistent with
what the people of the College Bowl
had designed It to be" said McCaleb.
"If any of these teams were going to
be aired over College Bowl I didn't
think those were suitable names to go
over the city of AWfcse with" he said.
McCaleb said the College Bowl was
designed to be serious academic
competition.
None of the teams were present at

In Tuesday's matches the Totally
Unobtrusive team formerly Bour-
jeoys White Trash defeated Gata
Guessers 440 to 30. The Gradients
defeated Gata II by a score of 230 to
150.
In other Tuesday play Team X
formerly the Nerdbrains defeated
Kinsmen 225 to 170 and Brats No. 0
defeated Princeton ?20 to 175.
During Thursday's College Bowl
play the Elite team defeated Sub T-16
by a score of 285 to 00 and Team X
defeated Brats No. 0 by a score of 315
to 180.
Also in Thursday's College Bowl
action the Not Ready for MENSA
players beat GATA III by a score of

wants to get more response from the
faculty in providing questions for the
next College Bowl "I also hope we.
can have more student response in
watching tho Bowl and in forming
teams" she said. Overall the College
Bowl has been a great success said
Hargrove.

"I think it's silly to change our

of positive feedback on their actions in
competitions said Barrett

member of the Bourjeoys White Trash
team said team members weren't
happy about the name change but"it
wasn't that big a deal."
