'Tis the season to be jolly?
For some? Maybe.
For most of us leaving Howard
Payne to the place we used to
call home? Not exactly.
Perhaps the visions of sugar
plumbs and candy canes still
dance in your head anytime
the thought of returning to the
familiar sights and sounds of
home comes to mind. However
if those sights happen to be
your comfy new bed that dou-
bles as the family room sofa
or if those sounds happen to be
the impending argument with
your mom and dad those sugar
plumbs and candy canes may be
long expired.
So what now? You're cram-
ming for finals salvaging
grades tying up loose ends ...
and preparing to go home for

the holidays. How prepared are
you? Here are a few seasonal
saviors that may assist in your
transition.
After a random survey was
conducted of approximately 50
HPU students the typical holi-
day horrors can be summed up
into 5 main hurdles:
5. Oh how we will all miss the
hand holding and gaga eyes that
occurs naturally at any Baptist
University. But the leaves have
changed and the dearly beloveds
must part ways to return back to
their faraway lands.
Whatever will they do? Well
if this applies to you - don't
fret we may have a few solu-
tions for you. Aside from the
foreseeable long-distance calls
and roaming charges there are
other ways to keep in touch
and perhaps add some creativity
to your relationship. Dr. Brent
Marsh dean of student life at
HPU recommended putting
together a package or making a
gift to send them. Other options
he gave are writing sweet emails
or planning a date and meeting
halfway. So dry those tears all
you love birds - absence makes
the heart grow fonder as well as
the phone bill larger.
4. Next iri line would be a
sudden halt of cash flow for
the holiday weeks. Suddenly
taking a four-week break back
home doesn't sound so splendid
when you're flashing back to
the old days asking your pop to
spot you 5 bucks for a soda.
Luckily though we poor
college students can benefit
from the craze of holiday shop-
ping and fortunately many
stores and retail places hire
extra help temporarily for the
