academy.
As time passed, there were two general
stores. One also sold drugs and housed the
post office. There was a candy kitchen that
sold candies and tobacco. There was a barber
shop, and two drug stores that dispensed
perscrption drugs. One of the latter was
owned and operated by T.L. Rogers, who
later moved it to Morgan. It was said that at
one time there were three cotton gins at
Kimball. Ben McDonald, the ferryboat op-
erator, rigged up a small steam engine to run
a grist mill. During the winter of 1867-68,
Masonic Lodge 292 was established, chart-
ered, and met in its own building.
In 1882, the Santa Fe Company built a
railroad through Kopperl and Morgan. It
missed Kimball by only a few miles. The
cattle drives stopped. The train made a
crossing of the river easier, but the town of
Kimball remained a thriving place for severalarx+ '"
