the roads in buggy or wagon pulled by horses
when it was a rainy season. Horses would pull
so hard they would break the tugs that held
the horses to the buggies or surry or wagon.
Sometimes it was so cold we would have
icicles hanging from our noses and eyes when
we got to school or home. Finally they began
making straighter roads, donating right-of-
ways, fencing and graveling them, so cars
could travel easily. In 1983 part of the
graveled road from FM 2136 to FM 182 was
paved. Commissioner of Precinct 4, J. Paul
Howard, has done a great job on the upkeep
of roads.
Electricity, R.E.A., out of Stephenville,
Erath County, came through Harmony in the
middle 1940's. Before electricity, we burned
wood for heat, used coal-oil lamps for light,
and had cloth-covered coolers soaked with
water to keep food longer. We had commu-
30nity telephone lines, crank phone boxes with
two batteries connected with wire from home
to home. Now we enjoy modern telephone
service.
Between the Harmony community and the
city of Clifton is a wildlife park, Texas Safari,
which attracts thousands of people each year.
It was opened in 1981.
The beautiful countryside of the Harmony
community attracts people as a fine place to
live. Among them are professional artists, one
of them being the well-known Western artist,
James Boren.
Descendants of early settlers living in this
community are (either both or one of the
spouses): Hugo and Ethel (Linberg) Anz,
William and Virgie (Aars) Amundson, Mrs.

Its birth coincides with the completion of the
Whitney Dam. In 1947, construction began
on the Whitney Dam. In 1941, Congress had
